Nachbar (09/08/11) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council award a contract to Structural Group Inc. in the amount of $125 000 for the Culver City Transfer Station Tipping Floor Repair Project P 948. BACKGROUND: The transfer station is a two story reinforced concrete structure located adjacent to Ballona Creek at 9255 Jefferson Boulevard. Collection trucks dump their loads on the upper level tipping floor and a large tractor loader pushes the material through an opening in the tipping floor and into transfer trucks parked on the lower level. These loading activities wear the surface of the tipping floor requiring that the floor be repaired approximately every 10 years. Presently the tipping floor surface is showing significant wear and it is recommended that a repair effort be conducted at this time. The last repair was conducted in 1999. DISCUSSION: The recommended repair will consist of the application of a special high strength metallic concrete overlay on the worn portions of the tipping floor.
