Fulwood (03/05/08) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council receive a presentation from the Department of Conservation (DOC) regarding the Comprehensive Recycling Community (CRC) Program and authorize the DOC to implement the Program in Culver City. BACKGROUND: The California Department of Conservation (DOC) has developed the Comprehensive Recycling Community (CRC) Program to help communities increase beverage container recycling by implementing coordinated sustainable programs. This is a collaborative effort between the State and Local Governments to develop and implement strategies or best practices that increase the recycling of beverage container material. The DOC intends to increase beverage container recycling in targeted communities with the ultimate goal of increasing beverage container recycling by 80% statewide. By establishing partnerships with targeted communities the DOC will facilitate efforts to provide more recycling opportunities by enhancing beverage container recycling infrastructure and promoting the recycling message to the public.
