RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council (1) adopt a Resolution approving an application for grant funds through CalRecycle for the Household Hazardous Waste Grant Program (FY 2021-22) HD37 with Culver City as the lead agency in partnership with West Hollywood; and (2) approve a professional services agreement with California Product Stewardship Council to submit the application on behalf of the City.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Public Works Environmental Programs and Operations Division (EPO) has had a battery program in place for 15 years. Batteries are banned from the landfill; however, cities must bear the burden for disposal costs. Funding to continue and expand the program in the future and how best to achieve this has been a concern.
The current battery program consists of a disposal box at the Senior Center for residents and several collection containers at city facilities for staff. EPO staff manage the collection, and disposal of the batteries.
