Fulwood (11/28/07) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the appropriation of a grant given by the California Office of Traffic Safety for overtime reimbursement to fund a total of two sobriety checkpoints from December 17 2007 through January 3 2008 and August 17 2008 through September 3 2008. Staff also recommends a budget amendment to reflect the grant revenue and appropriation accounts. (This budget amendment requires a 4/5th vote of the City Council.) BACKGROUND: The California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration is contracting with the University of California Berkeley Traffic Safety Center to provide funds to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of conducting sobriety checkpoints during the holiday seasons to reduce the number of persons killed and/or injured in alcohol involved crashes.
