RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee, select three grand prize winners of the Fellowship & Beyond Video Contest.


BACKGROUND

The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee (MCJCAC), hosted an online video competition that required participants produce a video via Youtube that reflected the prompt: "The world needs people not in love with money but in love with justice -not in love with fame or power but in love with humanity."

Submissions for the competition opened on November 20, 2024. Public notification was posted on the Culver City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Instagram and Facebook pages, and the Culver City notification emails system was utilized to send messages to various subscription groups. Culver City Unified School District was also informed, and community outreach was done in local parks. Posters were placed in all Culver City parks and, the Veterans Memorial complex including Senior Center and Teen Center. Staff also requested that MCJCAC members reach out to their contacts in the community to encourage participants and a few advisory members helped pass out flyers at the Culver City Tree Lighting event.
