Nachbar (10/05/11) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council consider City Council Policy 2006 001 related to the Naming of City Facilities (Policy) and direct the City Manager as deemed appropriate. BACKGROUND: On December 11 2006 the City Council adopted Resolution 2006 R089 which adopted City Council Policy 2006 001 (Naming of City Facilities). A copy of the Policy and an excerpt of the minutes from the City Council meeting of December 11 2006 are attached for the City Council s reference. At the City Council meeting of August 22 201 the City Council agreed to place on a future agenda a discussion of naming the Senior Center after Albert and Ursula Vera. While preparing this item for placement on a future agenda staff reviewed the Policy which contains the following provision: a City Facility may be named to honor a deceased person who has made extraordinary contributions to the community which have been consistent and continuous over a considerable period of time such as the long term public service of an elected official or a community volunteer.
