RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission (Commission) hear the administration of the oath of office for the newly re-appointed commissioner; and select, by majority vote, a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson to serve in those capacities until the next reorganization in July 2025 or thereafter.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
As of June 30, 2024, the Commission had one vacant seat due to an expiring Commissioner term. The City Clerk's Office advertised and recruited applicants to fill the Commission's one vacancy along with other City Council appointed vacancies.
On June 10, 2024, City Council re-appointed one incumbent Commissioner, Chi Ming Gong, to fill the vacant Civil Service Commission seat.
PROCEDURE
The Secretary to the Civil Service Commission shall administer the Oath of Office to the newly Reappointed Commissioner. After administration of the Oath of Office, the re-appointed Commissioner may join the meeting as a participating and voting member. The current Chair shall preside over the meeting and take nominations for the selection of the new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.
