BACKGROUND

City staff have received a petition from residents in the 4300 and 4400 blocks of Sawtelle Boulevard and Corinth Avenue requesting that parking be allowed along the southbound section of Sawtelle Boulevard underneath the 405 Freeway, see Attachment 1. The area requested would provide an additional 10-12 on-street parking spaces adjacent to the existing bike lane.

DISCUSSION

Staff contacted the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) as this segment is within Caltrans right-of-way. Caltrans indicated that they are open to reviewing the request only if this committee has reviewed and recommended the proposal at a public hearing. Staff recommends that vehicles over 7' tall or 22' long would be prohibited between 2 am and 6 am daily.

Additionally, Caltrans has indicated that the current lane configuration of the roadway did follow the Caltrans permitting process when implemented in 2015. City staff is in process of rectifying this with Caltrans via an encroachment permit.
