RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approve purchase orders with (1) Adamson Police Products for the purchase of 100 LWRC Patrol Carbine Rifles in an amount not-to-exceed $175,124.80; and (2) Botach Inc for the purchase of 103 Red Dot Optical Sights, 103 Tactical Lights, and 103 Rifle Cases in an amount not-to-exceed $54,005.97.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
In order to improve its ability to respond quickly and appropriately to critical incidents, the Police Department has implemented a new rifle program. As part of the program, all Police Officers and Sergeants will be issued a rifle for field use. This program will help augment the Department's Patrol staffing in the event of a critical incident, and dramatically improve our ability to respond appropriately to these incidents.
Police Department staff members are very familiar with the various Police Patrol style rifles that are on the market. Staff conducted a significant amount of research into the LWRC rifle and received feedback from over ten law enforcement agencies currently utilizing the LWRC rifle.
