BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

A representative from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will make a presentation regarding glue traps used for wildlife control.

The presentation will:

                     Describe the inhumane nature of glue traps, causing animals to suffer painful and prolonged death;

                     Include information about other local municipalities that have banned the sale and use of glue traps, such as West Hollywood and Ojai, CA; and

                     Provide options for alternative wildlife control measures.

Specifically, PETA will request the Subcommittee recommend to the full City Council a ban on the sale and use of glue traps in Culver City in favor of more humane methods to control wildlife.

Following the presentation, the Subcommittee will discuss the topic and provide guidance to staff on whether to proceed and return with a draft Glue Trap Ban Ordinance.
