Nachbar (03/18/15) for Institute of Justice RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council authorize the filing of an application with the National the Coverdell National Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program FY 2015. BACKGROUND: The Coverdell Program awards grants to states and units of local government to help improve the quality of forensic science services. Among other things the funds may be used for laboratory accreditation and certification of forensic unit staff. The Culver City Police Department is eligible to receive $9 900. DISCUSSION: The Police Department and Forensic Unit have determined the funds will be used to apply and prepare for laboratory accreditation by a reputable accrediting body such as the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) the ANSI ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) or the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA).
