RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission approve the revised Classification Specification and Recruitment Bulletins for Solid Waste and Recycling Crew Supervisor.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

In December 2014, one of the Sanitation Crew Supervisors in the Environmental Programs and Operations Division of the Public Works Department ("Department") retired. The vacancy provided the Department with the opportunity to review the classification specification and address the current needs of the Department.

In anticipation of conducting an open and competitive recruitment to fill the vacant Sanitation Crew Supervisor position, Human Resources staff in concurrence with Department management have determined that revisions to the classification specification are necessary to attract better informed applicants and to ensure consistency with the title and duties of the position within the organizational structure. One of the proposed revisions includes a downgrade of the license requirement to a California Class B driver license. Historically the incumbent was required to operate heavy equipment that required a California Class A driver license.
