BACKGROUND: In January 2014 the Police Department submitted a grant application through the California Office of Traffic Safety for a federally funded Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant for Fiscal Year 2015. In July 2014 the California Office of Traffic Safety tentatively approved (pursuant to City Council ratification) the application and determined that Culver City is eligible to receive STEP funds through a statutory formula that is based on the need for enforcement of driving under the influence laws distracted drivers bicycle/pedestrians education and enforcement along with a series of traffic safety education presentations.
