RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission receive and file an update to install pickleball courts along National Blvd. under Los Angeles Metro’s Exposition Line Train.

BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION

During the PRCS Commission Special Meeting on November 21, 2024, a member of the public brought awareness to the Commission that there is opportunity to place pickleball courts under Los Angeles Metro’s Exposition Line Train that runs above National Blvd.  It was requested to be added to the PRCS Department’s Park Plan (Plan), which was at the time still undergoing draft revisions.  The City Council adopted the Plan on February 10, 2025.

On page 111 of the Plan, 8 possible parcels and sites are listed for new development to expand Culver City’s park footprint and relive park pressure from existing sites.  The 0.3-acre site along National Blvd under the Exposition Line Train is listed as one of 8 sites to explore for new development.  Ted Stevens, PRCS Director, has been in communication with Los Angeles Metro to discuss the City’s ability to develop the land and the requirements from Los Angeles Metro in order to permit the land to the City.
