RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council:
1. Accept the work performed by FS Construction, Inc. for the construction of the
CDBG Sidewalk & Curb Repair Project, P-428; and,
2. Authorize filing a Notice of Completion; and,
3. Approve the final construction contract amount of $62,018.14; and,
4. Authorize the release of the retention funds in the amount of $2,961.25 after the
expiration of the 35-day lien period.
BACKGROUND:
On March 24, 2014, the City Council awarded a construction contract to FS
Construction, Inc. for the reconstruction of sidewalks at multiple locations on Van
Buren Place and Grand View Avenue, and a curb reconstruction on the south side of
Washington Boulevard between Kenyon Avenue and Chase Avenue.
The project scope of work consisted of removing the existing sidewalk and curb, root
trimming as necessary, and constructing a new sidewalk over new base and
reconstructing a new curb and gutter over new base. City of Culver City, California

DISCUSSION:
FS Construction, Inc. successfully completed the work on June 9, 2014. The
construction management and inspection was performed by Engineering Division
staff.
The City Council approved a $7,000 contingency contract amount. A change order
in the amount of $ 9,793.14 was approved for quantity adjustments and to pay for
extra work due to unforeseen field conditions encountered during construction. An
additional tree was planted on Grand View Avenue, the curb line repair was
extended from Kenyon Avenue to Centinela Avenue on Washington Boulevard, and
additional sidewalk was reconstructed on Van Buren.
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the final contract amount of
$62,018.14. There are sufficient funds in the project budget (41880000) to fund this
final contract amount.

MOTIONS:
That the City Council:
1. Approve a Change Order in the Amount of $9,793.14 (for a total contract
amount of $62,018.14); and,
2. Accept the work performed by FS Construction, Inc. for the construction of
the CDBG Sidewalk & Curb Repair Project, P-428; and,
3. Authorize the Public Works Director/City Engineer to execute the Notice of
Completion and submit it to the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office;
4. Authorize the City Manager to release $2,961.25 in retention to FS
Construction, Inc. after the expiration of the 35-day lien period.
