City of Culver City, California
City Council Agenda Item Report
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council receive and file this informational report related
to the Natatorium.
DISCUSSION:
The re-opening of the Natatorium has been an area of interest to both the City
Council and the Board of Education for several years. Recently, the City Council’s
City/School District Subcommittee has discussed this issue with their counterparts at
the School District. Additionally, the City Manager and Superintendent have also
discussed this issue.
Both the City and the District have expressed preliminary interest in potentially re-
opening the Natatorium. However, the costs of both needed capital improvements
and ongoing operations and maintenance costs need to be accurately estimated and
presented to both bodies before further meaningful discussion and decisions can be
considered.
To allow these discussions to move forward, I will be executing an Administrative
Contract (less than $10,000) to a consultant who can provide credible estimates of
both numbers. Once completed, the results will be shared with the Subcommittee
and the Council. The results are expected to be discussed further by both
Subcommittees with a potential recommendation being forwarded to the City
Council.
I have shared this action plan with the Superintendent who will be interacting with
the Board of Education on this topic in the near future.
