RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the work performed by American
Seating Company, and authorize filing a Notice of Completion for installation of fixed
seats in the Veterans Memorial Building’s auditorium. It is also recommended that
retention funds in the amount of $6,666.54 be released to American Seating after
the expiration of the thirty-five day lien period.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
On November 14, 2011 the City Council awarded a contract to American Seating
Company in the amount of $180,188.03, for installation of fixed seats in the Veterans
Memorial Building’s auditorium. As reported to the City Council on January 30,
2012, this contract was amended administratively for installation of seats with a
modified seat design at a final reduced contract amount of $133,330.90.
The installation of the seats has now been satisfactorily completed by American
Seating.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
Funds are available in the account numbers 41900876, 42000876, and 48693650 to
pay the final contract amount of $133,330.90.

MOTIONS:
That the City Council:
1) Accept the work performed by American Seating Company for the installation of
fixed seats in the Veterans Memorial Building Auditorium; and,
2) Authorize the Public Works Director/City Engineer to execute the Notice of
Completion on behalf of the City and submit it to the Los Angeles County
Recorder’s Office for recordation; and
3) Authorize the release of $6,666.54 in retention funds to American Seating
following the expiration of the thirty-five day lien period.
