RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council consider an additional request for in-kind
financial assistance for IndieCade: The International Festival of Independent Games
(IndieCade Festival).
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION:
The 2014 IndieCade Festival was approved as a City-sponsored event at the City
Council meeting on March 24, 2014. At that meeting, the City Council approved
$13,600 in fee waivers, including the costs to rent five rooms at Veterans Memorial
Complex for IndieCade’s October 9
th
educational portion of the event called
IndieXchange.
As the festival nears, IndieCade Festival staff met with staff from the Veterans
Booking Office to finalize plans with the new information that the expected
attendance at IndieXchange had doubled. To accommodate this increase,
IndieCade Festival producers have increased programming and have requested use
of an additional five rooms, including the Auditorium, in addition to the five rooms
included in the costs originally approved by City Council.
IndieCade has stated it will also need use of all of the rooms for an additional hour
beyond what was originally included in the estimate that was calculated for the
purpose of the fee waiver request in March.

IndieCade requests that the costs of these additional rentals be waived to support
the growth of this educational portion of the Festival. The increase is an additional
$4,528.
The Auditorium, Iksan, Lobby, Room A and Room B rooms are available and the
PRCS Department has tentatively reserved these additional rooms for October 9
th
subject to City Council’s approval of this request.

Total Veterans Memorial Building Fee Waiver Request: $ 9,081.00
