RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council conduct informational interviews with applicants to the various Culver City commissions, boards, and committees (CBCs).
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION
Each spring, the City opens the annual application period to fill openings on the City’s CBCs.
At the May 9, 2016, City Council meeting, the City Council directed the City Manager to hold a special meeting to provide an interview opportunity for applicants in preparation for consideration of appointments to the open positions at a separate City Council meeting. The interview process was determined to be helpful as part of the appointment process and has been repeated each year since.
Interviews of candidates who applied to serve on a commission will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, will begin at 6:00PM, with those who applied to be on a commission, after whichfollowed by interviews of candidates for all other boards and committees will occur.
Candidates will be allotted up to three (3) minutes for each interview and have been instructed to prepare a response to one of the following questions:
• For first-time applicants:
o What do you understand the position to entail and what do you hope to accomplish as a commissioner, board, or committee member?
• For those seeking reappointment:
o What have you accomplished during your term and what do you hope to accomplish for the upcoming term?
Please note that applicants who applied for multiple positions will be called only one time to be interviewed for the multiple positions.
Those unable to attend the June 1, 2026, meeting will be provided with an opportunity to provide written responses which will be made available to City Council as correspondence received by 3:00 PM on June 8, 2026.
Appointments to CBCs will be considered by City Council at the Regular regular City Council meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026. Appointees will be required to complete Ethics Training (AB1234 Training), scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026, between 6:00 and 9:00 PM.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
There is no fiscal impact for the City Council to conduct the interview process.
