RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council appoint and/or reappoint members to the following
Commissions: Planning, Parks and Recreation, Civil Service and Cultural Affairs.
BACKGROUND:
Planning Commission – Seat #1, currently held by David Scott Malsin, expires on
June 30, 2009. Mr. Malsin was elected to the City Council in April 2006 and this
created a vacancy. Seat #5, currently held by Sheila Thomas, expires on June 30,
2006. Ms. Thomas has served two consecutive terms and must step down from the
Planning Commission. A total of 6 people submitted timely applications indicating
an interest in serving on the Planning Commission.
Parks and Recreation Commission – Seat #3, currently held by Jeanette James,
expires on June 30, 2006. Ms. James was appointed to the Commission in 2002.
Ms. James submitted a new application indicating her interest to again serve on the
Commission. A total of 4 people submitted timely applications indicating an interest
in serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Civil Service – Seat #5, currently held by Andrew Weissman, expires on June 30,
2006. Mr. Weissman has served two consecutive terms and must step down from
the Civil Service Commission. A total of 2 people submitted timely applications
indicating an interest in serving on the Civil Service Commission.

Cultural Affairs – Seat #5, currently held by Clement Hanami, expires on June 30,
2006. Mr. Hanami was appointed to the Commission in 2005 to fill an unexpired
term for Seat #5. Mr. Hanami submitted an application indicating his interest to
again serve on the Commission. A total of 4 people submitted timely applications
indicating an interest in serving on the Cultural Affairs Commission.

30, 2010.
Appoint/reappoint to fill Seat #3 as Parks and
Recreation Commissioner to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a four (4)
year term, expiring on June 30, 2010.
Appoint to fill Seat #5 as Civil Service
Commissioner to the Civil Service Commission for a four (4) year term, expiring on
June 30, 2010.
Appoint/reappoint to fill Seat #5 as Cultural Affairs
Commissioner to the Cultural Affairs Commission for a four (4) year term, expiring
on June 30, 2010.
