RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) designate the City’s Voting Delegate and up to two Alternate-Delegates for the 2026 League of California Cities Annual Conference; and (2) if desired, provide guidance to the Voting Delegate regarding taking a position on a Resolution to be considered at the Conference’s General Assembly.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The City of Culver City is a Member of the League of California Cities (League).  Each year, the League holds an Annual Conference during which time the General Assembly votes on various matters of policy, including any resolutions presented to the General Assembly in accordance with the League’s by-laws.  This year’s annual League conference will take place in Anaheim from September 23-25, 2026.

The League has set a deadline of September 1, 2026 for cities to submit the names of the Voting Member and Alternate Voting Member(s).  At this time, Mayor Puza and Councilmember Vera are registered for this year’s League Conference.

A part of the 2026 Annual Conference is the Annual Business Meeting (during the General Assembly), which is scheduled for Friday, September 25, at which time the Voting Delegates or their Alternates can vote for League Resolutions. Additionally, the League informed staff that there will be one Resolution to be considered at the General Assembly. However, as of August 4, 2026, the Resolution and supporting information have not yet been provided to staff. As such, staff recommends the Voting Member and the Alternate Voting Member review the League Resolution and consider their position on the Resolution, based on information available, in accordance with the City Council Strategic Plan, and/or the City’s Legislative and Policy Platform, and/or Work Plan Priorities.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There is no fiscal impact associated with the designation of the Voting Delegate/Alternate Voting Delegate(s) or taking a position on the resolution.
