RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council (1) consider appointments to the Ad Hoc 2025 and 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics Preparation Subcommittee; (2) create a City Council Ad Hoc Women and Girls Subcommittee; and (3) provide direction to the City Clerk as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Consideration of Appointments to the Ad Hoc 2025 and 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics Preparation Subcommittee
The City Council traditionally has appointed Council Member(s) to represent the City on various “outside agencies” and on City Council Subcommittees. On January 12, 2026 the City Council made appointments to various subcommittees.
The Ad Hoc 2028 Summer Olympics Preparation Subcommittee was created on January 9, 2023 for the purpose of advising and consulting with City staff on the implementation of projects and programs related to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics (collectively, “Olympics”). Preparation for the FIFA World Cup was added on January 27, 2025. This Subcommittee will be dissolved after preparation and implementation of event activities has concluded. Current members are Mayor Puza and Council Member O’Brien.
At the January 26, 2026 City Council Meeting, there was consensus by City Council to reconsider the appointments made at the January 12 2026 City Council Meeting for the Ad Hoc 2025 and 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics Preparation Subcommittee.
City Council Ad Hoc Women and Girls Subcommittee
At the January 26, 2026 City Council Meeting, the City Council directed the City Manager to create an advisory committee for a limited term to ensure that Culver City is serving women and girls.
To ensure the Advisory Committee’s goals and structure are created to fulfill the City Council’s direction, the first steps for new advisory bodies are the creation and appointment of Council Members to an ad hoc subcommittee.
Subcommittees are created to consider and make recommendations to the full City Council on various issues and topics that are important to the City.
An “ad hoc” subcommittee serves only a limited or specific purpose, is not perpetual, and is dissolved when its specific task is completed.
It is recommended that the Ad Hoc Women and Girls Subcommittee be created to finalize the mission and goals prior to the commencement of the annual recruitment period to fill vacancies and other positions for whom the terms have ended.
FISCAL IMPACT
Consideration of the proposed motions does not create a fiscal impact for the City.
