Staff recommends that the City Council authorize:
1. Entering into a professional services agreement with Peter Erdelyi &
Associates for a structural peer review for the Symantec Project/ 800
Corporate Pointe.
BACKGROUND:
The Symantec project; 550,000 s.f. offices and 600,000 s.f. parking garages
applied for a construction permit September 29th, 2005.
The Building Safety Plan Check Engineer is an experienced engineer, but Staff
felt for a project of this size, it would be prudent to seek an independent structural
engineering review.
DISCUSSION:
On September 13th, 2005, Building Safety mailed out an RFP to three selected
structural engineering firms seeking the services of a qualified structural
engineering firm to perform a structural engineering peer review of the structural
plans and specifications of the Symantec Project.
All three firms submitted proposals:

City Council Agenda Item Report|1010|The proposals were evaluated by Building Safety staff based on the criteria
established in the RFP.
Based on the review of the proposals, Staff recommends that Peter Erdelyi &
Associates be selected to provide the structural engineering peer review. While
all three firms submitting proposals are capable of successfully completing the
Project, this selection is based on Erdelyi’s ability to provide all the requirements
of the RFP, their expertise in the structural design of a variety of projects and
facilities, the fact that they are a locally based structural engineering firm, and
their ability to economically accomplish the Project. Building Safety staff
contacted the references provided by Erdelyi & Associates and received strong
positive recommendations from the individuals we contacted.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
The Building Safety Division has in its fiscal 2005-2006 budget $50,000 for
contractual services, account number (10151500.411700).

The structural peer review will be for the building structures only and will not include any
civil engineering review Please submit your proposal by 5 00 p m Thursday, September
29 2005
If you are selected the City will supply you with a complete set of architectural and
structural drawings and specifications, and a geotechnical report If you are selected your
structural peer review will need to be completed and returned to Culver City Building
Safety within 15 working days The project permit application is expected to be submitted
this year, and may be submitted by the end of this month
