City of Culver City, California
Agenda Item Report
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution appointing the Transportation
Director as Member and the Transit Operations Manager as Alternate Member to the
CalTIP Board of Directors.
BACKGROUND:
The City is a member of CalTIP, which provides liability insurance to transit agencies
in the States of California and Nevada. CalTIP is a joint powers insurance authority
organized under California law in 1987 in response to the limited availability of
liability insurance coverage from the commercial insurance market. CalTIP
combines the resources of public transit agencies to minimize risk, increase buying
power, and provide stable, affordable insurance to its members.
DISCUSSION:
CalTIP is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives of member
transit agencies. This ensures the programs remain competitive with commercial
offerings and continue to evolve to meet members’ changing needs. CalTIP serves
approximately 36 transit operators.
