RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approve a purchase order with National Auto Fleet Group for the purchase of two heavy-duty Commercial Chassis Cab Trucks (Ford F-550) in an amount not to exceed $401,622.24.
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION
The Public Works Maintenance Operations Division operates a fleet of 44 vehicles, including electric trucks, bucket trucks, parking meter repair vans, and specialized equipment to perform essential City services such as street maintenance, streetlight maintenance, and other infrastructure-related work.
The Wastewater Maintenance Division is responsible for the ongoing inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City’s sewer infrastructure, including pipelines, manholes, pumping stations, and related facilities. The Division’s current 2001 Ford truck is used by Sewer Lift Station Electro Mechanics to assist with repairing pumps, motors, mechanical equipment, and electrical controls associated with the wastewater collection system. This vehicle has reached the end of its useful service life, resulting in decreased reliability and increasing maintenance and repairs, and requires replacement.
On February 9, 2026, the City Council approved mid-year budget amendments that included two new Ford F-550 trucks, one of which was specifically fitted with a crane body. The new trucks will support the transport and installation of sewer lift station equipment, including pumps, motors, K-rails, sewer suction hoses, and spill containment supplies. These capabilities are critical to ensuring a timely response to sanitary sewer overflows, lift station failures, and stormwater-related maintenance needs, and will enhance the Division’s ability to perform both routine and emergency maintenance activities and will improve overall reliability.
Pursuant to Culver City Municipal Code Section 3.07.055.G, the purchase of equipment, goods and supplies are exempt from formal competitive bidding requirements when competitive bid procedure have already been utilized by the City or another public agency or non-profit entity whose main purpose is to help public agencies make purchases; provided, the equipment, good or supplies are supplied to the City at the same or better price, and were obtained through the competitive bid procedures of that entity. Staff was able to secure competitive pricing from National Auto Fleet Group through Sourcewell, Contract No. 032824-NAF. Sourcewell is a service cooperative created by the Minnesota legislature as a local unit of government that works to streamline the procurement process for government entities nationwide.
Staff recommends the City Council approve a purchase order with National Auto Fleet Group for the purchase of two Ford F-550 trucks in the amount of $401,622.24
