RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council authorize the filing of an application with the US
Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance for Edward Byrne Memorial
Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FY 2012 Program funds.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, has determined that
Culver City is eligible to receive JAG funds through a statutory formula that is based
on the violent crimes in Culver City that are reported to the State of California.Culver
City’s eligible allocation is $12,170 as determined by this formula.
DISCUSSION:
The Police Department has determined the funds will be used to purchase high
efficiency computer workstations to replace several inefficient and outdated
systems. The computer hardware will replace poor performing workstation
components. The computer components and accessories will also help maintain
system integrity. Additionally, several ineffective or damaged computer monitors will
be replaced to address operational and maintenance needs.Replacement hardware
includesmodern, high efficiency workstations designed to consolidate tasks and
support current and next generation software.
The proposed grant monies will fund the total project costs for the computer hardware.
The project will improve law enforcement computer processing efficiencies and reduce

administrative overhead through consolidation and revitalization. Police Department
staff will provide the necessary labor to install the new software.
As with many grant opportunities, Federal Agencies have been issuing very short
timelines for grant submittals. In the case of this grant, the deadline to submit the
program narrative, scope of work and budget narrative to the Department of Justice
is May 14, 2012.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
The project is completely funded by the grant. No matching funds are required from
the City.
A preliminary estimate was received from Dell Computer in the amount of $9,114 for
the computer workstations and $3,056 for the monitors. Upon receipt of grant funds,
the Police Department will adhere to the appropriate Purchasing procedures to
obtain the equipment.

That the City Council:
1. Authorize the filing of an application with the US Department of Justice, Bureau
of Justice Assistance, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)
Program funds FY 2012; and,
2. Authorize the City Attorney to review/prepare the necessary documents; and
3. Authorize the City Manager to execute such documents on behalf of the City.
