RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) review the memo regarding the DAC Community Survey results and authorize PRCS Staff to transmit it to City Council through the City Clerk with adjustments if any.

BACKGROUND

Public Survey

At the June 8, 2022, DAC meeting, committee members authorized the transmittal of its 2022/2023 workplans which included the goal of publishing a community survey regarding individuals with disabilities in Culver City. After reviewing questions submitted by DAC members for the survey, the second draft was approved to be published at the regular meeting of December 14, 2022.

On March 28, 2023, the DAC Community Survey was published. The survey was an online survey with 14 questions covering opportunities for improvement within Culver City that individuals with disabilities and/or their caregivers would like to share with the DAC.  If a member of the public did not have access to a computer, or if they needed to take the survey in Spanish, a phone number was provided to take the survey over the phone.  Physical copies of the survey were also available to be picked up or shared with those who were interested in taking the survey. The DAC requested that the survey close after six weeks on May 9, 2023.

In order to inform the public of this survey, post cards and flyers with QR codes to the online survey were distributed to local organizations that serve individuals with disabilities and their support systems. In addition, flyers and post cards were also mailed to participants from disability programs such as Socialites, Dances for the Developmentally Disabled and the annual Culver City Abilities Carnival.  In addition, a GovDelivery email with a link to the survey was sent on March 30, 2023 to more than 13,000 recipients. Multiple Nextdoor, Facebook and Instagram posts were done before and during the community survey period, which was from Tuesday, March 28 through midnight on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. The public was informed that they could only complete the survey once for each household. At the close of the survey period, 38 people had participated in the survey. The complete survey results are included as Attachment 1 in this report.

At the regular meeting on June 14, 2023, the DAC voted to have Chair Tenensapf and Vice Chair Goldhaber write a letter to City Council with assistance from PRCS staff regarding the Community Survey results. The DAC voted to bring back the memo for review before the body at this meeting on August 9, 2023 and if authorized, PRCS staff will then share the memo with the City Clerk to then provide as correspondence for the next City Council meeting.
