BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At their December 2, 2025, Regular Meeting, the PRCS Commission reviewed the fiscal year 2025-2026 PRCS budget and began discussions about requests the PRCS Commission would like to send to City Council. At that time, Vice Chair Maggie Peters was approved to draft a letter for the PRCS Commission to review.
The draft letter included the following recommendations:
• Staffing: Regarding full-time staff, the letter recommends funding the following new positions: One Management Analyst, and Two Maintenance Worker I. For part-time staff, the letter recommends providing additional wages for Youth Sports.
• Playground Maintenance: The letter recommends increasing the operating budget in the Parks Division to better fund ongoing playground maintenance.
• Youth Sports Programs: The letter recommends increasing the budget for the pilot youth sports programs to turn it into full-scale program.
• Tellefson Park Renovation: The letter recommends funding the renovation of Tellefson Park in accordance with the recommendations found in the Parks Plan.
• Lindberg Park Playground: The letter recommends funding the renovation of the playground at Lindberg Park in accordance with the recommendations found in the Parks Plan.
At their Regular Meeting on January 6, 2026, the PRCS Commission reviewed the first draft of the budget letter. Discussion about the draft included the need for sports fields, PRCS positions in administration and maintenance, and future projects for the department.
Attachment 1 is the latest version of the draft budget letter based on the recommended changes at the January 6, 2026, Regular Meeting.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
There is no fiscal impact associated with the discussion of this Agenda Item. However, the discussion does include consideration for changes in the budget accounts associated with the PRCS department.
