RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Committee (Committee) approve the marketing poster and the updated communication outreach plan for the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Committee is being presented with a recommendation from the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) staff to approve the marketing poster and the updated communication outreach plan for the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on January 17, 2026. On October 16, 2025, members of the PR, Marketing and Entertainment Ad Hoc Sub Committee were sent four poster designs for the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 2026. Attachment 1 shows the poster that was unanimously mentioned as the favorite of the members. The members provided some notes and feedback that were incorporated into the design. In addition, a communication outreach plan (Attachment 2) has been developed to ensure that promotional efforts align with key planning milestones and community partnership strategies.

In the past, PRCS has utilized marketing strategies such as social media, its City Living publication and posters to advertise the event. The reviewal of this communication outreach plan is essential to ensure the event is well-publicized and attracts broad community.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
The Adopted Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 includes funding for Community Events and Excursions. It is estimated that four hundred dollars ($400) will be spent on Marketing for the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 2025, from Community Events and Excursion-Departmental Special Supplies (10130280.514100) fund.
