Nachbar (08/03/11) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council approve the final plans and specifications and authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Washington Boulevard/Boise Avenue Pedestrian Crossing Signal Project, P-934. BACKGROUND: The length between the signalized intersections of Washington Boulevard/Zanja Street and Washington Boulevard/Centinela Avenue is approximately 1,800 feet. The proposed pedestrian crossing signal across Washington Boulevard at Boise Avenue will nearly bisect this 1,800 length in order to create a shorter distance between signalized crossings along this section of Washington Boulevard. The long walking distance between the existing signalized intersections, coupled with the recent development in the area, increase the need for the proposed pedestrian crossing signal. DISCUSSION: Under the general on-call traffic engineering services contract with the City, Infrastructure Engineers, formerly known as AAE, Inc., completed the design and preparation of the plans and specifications for the Washington Boulevard/Boise Avenue pedestrian crossing installation. The design includes two overhead signals with 2 flashing yellow lights in each direction of travel along Washington Boulevard. These flashing yellow lights can be activated by pedestrians through a push button on either side of Washington Boulevard. City of Culver City, California Agenda Item Report Should the City Council approve tonight’s actions and ultimately award a contract, such award is anticipated to occur in September 2011. Should the City Council ultimately award a constriction contract, a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued to consultants on the City’s on-call general civil engineering list for construction inspection.
