Commendation to John Montanio, Chief of Police, in honor of his retirement from City service.

C O M M E N D A T I O N
JOHN A. MONTANIO
WHEREAS, John A. Montanio joined the City of Culver City’s Police Department on August 27, 1973 as a Policeman; and
WHEREAS, over his 32 plus years of dedicated service to the citizens of Culver City, Chief Montanio has held the ranks of
Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain; and
WHEREAS, Chief Montanio was sworn in as the City Council’s unanimous choice as Chief of Police on March 26, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Chief Montanio has proudly and honorably represented the Department and the City of Culver City in various
ways, including currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of LA IMPACT, a country-wide law enforcement cooperative
that focuses on reducing the availability of illegal narcotics and prosecution of drug-related crimes; and
WHEREAS, on a lighter note, with the retirement of Chief Montanio, the officers and staff of the Police Department can now
rest assured that the Department’s supply of ketchup will be available for National Night Out, and the basement of the Police
Department will not be subjected to spontaneous combustion; and
WHEREAS, the City Council encourages Chief Montanio to spend more time on things like fishing, hiking, competitive
shooting and walking his dog; and
WHEREAS, while Chief Montanio is retiring from the City, he will continue to serve his Country and his fellow Americans
through an assignment with the Federal Government that will take him to exotic and intriguing places across the globe.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Culver City does wholeheartedly and
warmly commend Chief John A. Montanio for over 32 years of outstanding service protecting and securing the citizens of Culver
City. The City Council wishes Chief Montanio the very best in his retirement.
