RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee Approve Communication with Culver City Unified School District on Involvement in the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee (Committee) is responsible for advising the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department on the planning of the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. In anticipation of upcoming school closures for summer break, the Committee, at its March 19, 2025, meeting, requested there be a discussion on outreach to Culver City schools to encourage student participation in the 2026 event prior to the end of the current academic year. Staff seeks approval to initiate communication with the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) regarding student involvement in the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
