RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) receive and file the report regarding updates on the AARP Age-Friendly Communities Culver City Action Plan.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

As a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, the City of Culver City has made an ongoing commitment to be a livable community for people of all ages and abilities.  The driving force behind this commitment has been the Age-Friendly Action Plan initiative, which began in 2019.  As part of the initiative, the City conducted a community-wide survey and two community listening sessions, using the results to inform the development of the action plan.

The action plan focuses on eight domains: outdoor spaces and buildings; transportation; housing; social participation; respect and social cohesion; civic participation and employment; communication and information; and community support and health services.  The development and implementation phases of the action plan, which were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, were reactivated in 2024.

The DAC received an earlier report from Recreation and Community Services Manager Francisca Castillo about the AARP Age-Friendly Communities Culver City Action Plan at the February 21, 2024, Special Meeting.  Staff has scheduled this report to the DAC as an informational item to provide a progress update.  A copy of the report is included as Attachment 1.  The report will be presented by Recreation and Community Services Manager Francisca Castillo.
