Request to Discuss Pins for Former Mavors/Councilmembers
Councilmember Gross: And, urn... One last thing. There's been some
conversation about the possibility of pins like this for former Mayors...I think its,
there has been some looking into it. But do we have an interest of
creating... providing pins like this that say former Mayor to former Mayors Of
which I think there are eight living former Mayors. If I am counting right.
City Manager Fulwood: Yes .And, urn, I am familiar with that request. But it is
something I would need direction or consensus from City Council on...lf I am
going to do anything with it. So I can...
Counciimember Rose: No... If it nneans...I have a question. I seems to me that
there's... I can think of four living former Councilmen that were never made
Mayors. I was just wondering why we'd exclude them.
Councilmember Gross: We can do that too. That's a point.
Counciimember Rose: If we are going to do it.
Mayor Silbiger;
You mean because they don't have their former pins or they
were never given any.
Councilmember Gross: Well, if they are no longer a Councilmember or no
longer a Mayor they obviously don't wear their Mayor pin or their Councilrnennber
pin.. I think they do in many respects or in various situations still are viewed as
someone representative of the City in the past. I think is just a nice thing of
respect. I have heard of it being done in other cities. So, you know, it could be
former Mayor or former Councilmember
Mayor Silbiger:

Vice Mayor Corlin: I think staff should come back. .to know what other cities
are doing. See if we can do this in some way that it is not emblematic of sitting
on the Council now and making sure there can be no confusion by looking at the
badge in any way that someone is now sitting.. I know it is hard to let go. I
imagine it's hard to let go. I'll find out in April of 2008. But I don't think there is
anything wrong with having an emeritus type of a badge of some sort. We have
a Council Emeritus...I think quite frankly we should look into finding out if we can
give them some kind of a token for those that feel the necessity. They still have
their badges I guess they can flash their badges if they want to.
City Manager Fulwood: So therefore, am I hearing that the City Council would
like staff to bring it back with recommendations and options for consideration?
Councilmember Rose: So then one of the options should be "Been Mayor."
City Manager Fulwood: Thank you .We will bring this item back.
