RECOMMENDATION
Staff will present a summary update of community outreach efforts to date for the Sepulveda Connects Project (Project). Members may discuss and provide direction to staff. This meeting will also serve as another opportunity for community feedback.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Sepulveda Connects is a city project to design and build Transit Priority Lanes and related mobility improvements on the Sepulveda Boulevard corridor, along with complementary improvements within the City of Culver City. The Project is currently in the design and engagement phase, with ongoing community outreach dating back to October of 2025.
Throughout the Project, staff has conducted outreach to better understand community and local business concerns, identify potential impacts, and evaluate opportunities to improve safety and mobility. Staff will provide the Subcommittee with a summary and update on the outreach process, as previously requested by the Subcommittee, and obtain feedback as the Project evaluation continues.
Community Outreach Summary
Staff will provide an overview of outreach activities conducted to date, including:
• Community open houses and design workshops;
• Local businesses outreach efforts and key themes shared with the project team;
• Outreach strategies summary to provide updates on events and feedback opportunities;
• Concerns related to traffic, cut-through activity, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and neighborhood access;
• Feedback received regarding proposed traffic diverters and neighborhood circulation in Sunkist Park;
• Additional concepts being evaluated in response to community input, including cul-de-sacs; and
• Planned opportunities for continued community engagement and public input.
Staff has continued to engage residents following the community workshop held in June 2026 regarding potential traffic diverters in the Sunkist Park neighborhood. Based on community feedback received to date, the project team has evaluated additional solutions at the neighborhood access points. The next Sunkist Park community meeting is scheduled for October 7, 2026, at which time the Project team will present an evaluation of cul-de-sacs as potential neighborhood perimeter treatments and receive additional community feedback.
Community outreach is an important component of the Project development process and will help inform the evaluation of potential improvements. Staff will continue to assess proposed concepts based on community input, transportation operations, safety, emergency access, pedestrian and bicycle connectivity, and other technical considerations. Following the October community meeting, staff will evaluate community feedback and technical findings and return to the City Council with additional information and recommendations, as appropriate.
