RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve a special permit to the Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Department to allow a Petting Zoo on July 20, 2006 and a
Frisbee Dog show in Veteran’s Park on July 28, 2006 for entertainment purposes.
BACKGROUND:
The Culver City Municipal Code (CCMC) §9.10.055, Section A prohibits animals
within any City public park unless a special permit has been obtained from City
Council. The special permit allows animals for the purposes of conducting
entertainment or exhibitions. Attachment 1 provides a copy of CCMC §9.10.055,
Section A. In order to host any animal show or exhibit a special permit must be
approved by City Council.
DISCUSSION:
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department hosts an animal show
for the 120 day camp participants participating in the Just 4 Kids Day Camp. The
animal shows provide a special treat for children attending camp and usually have
an educational component.

Staff is requesting a permit to allow a Petting Zoo and a Frisbee Dog Show in
Veteran’s Park during the month of July. The shows are scheduled for July 20, 2006
for the Petting Zoo and July 28, 2006 for the Frisbee Dog Show. Both contractors
provide $1 million dollar liability insurance naming the City of Culver City additionally
insured.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
Approval of a special permit allowing entertainment animals will have no additional
fiscal impact to the City. The fees for the petting zoo and the dog show are in the
recommended fiscal year 2006-07 Day Camp budget, Account #10132120.514200
(Dances and Special Programs).
