RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) (1) draft a letter from the DAC to supporters of 2024 Disability Awareness Month; and (2) authorize transmittal of the letters to the intended recipients.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the August 14, 2024, regular meeting, the DAC expressed interest in drafting a letter of thanks to the manager of the Culver City Julian Dixon Library for her support of the month-long Disability Awareness Month display at their location, as was done by the committee in 2023.  After some discussion, it was decided to expand the issuing of thank you letters to other supporters of Disability Awareness Month, including groups and individuals that assist with the annual Abilities Carnival and Resource Fair

Staff have prepared this report to give the committee an opportunity to discuss the drafting of letters to individuals and groups they wish to express gratitude towards for their support of Disability Awareness Month.  The letter approved and transmitted by the DAC in 2023 to Kelly Conn, Manager of the Culver City Julian Dixon Library, is included as Attachment 1 for the committee’s reference.

Staff recommends that DAC consider the following options for the drafting of the letters:

1.                     DAC may draft a form letter and authorize transmittal of said letter to all recipients; or

2.                     DAC may designate a committee Member, or Members, to draft personalized letters outside of meeting time, and agendize the review and authorization for transmission of said drafts at the December 14, 2024, regular meeting, as was done by the committee in December 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact associated with this discussion.
