RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration (MCJC) Advisory Committee elect the Chair and Vice Chair of the MCJA Advisory Committee for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024/2025
SPECIAL REORGANIZATION 2024
Selection of the Chair and Vice Chair
The MCJC Advisory Committee does not have a formal policy for the selection of the Chair and Vice Chair. Traditionally the Vice Chair becomes the Chair and the Member with the most seniority becomes the Vice Chair. However, selection of Chair and Vice Chair is at the discretion of the Commission Members.
Below is each Committee Member’s seat number with their associated term:
Seat Number 1: Karena Bibbins-Mceever - First full-term of three years expires June 30, 2027
Seat Number 2: Lisa Gordon Cain - First full-term of three years expires on June 30, 2027.
Seat Number 3: Curtis Raynor - First full-term of three years expires June 30, 2027
Seat Number 4: Andrew Weiss - First full-term of three years expires June 30, 2027
Seat Number 5: Empty
Seat Number 6: Christian Green - First full-term of four years expires June 30, 2028
Seat Number 7: Latoya Hearns - First full-term of four years expires June 30, 2028
Seat Number 8: Carissa Joy Smith - First full-term of four years expires June 30, 2028
Seat Number 9: Amber Kearney - First full-term of four years expires June 30, 2028
A. Nominations of the Chair and Vice Chair
In the absence of a Chairperson, the previous Vice Chair announces that this is the time and place to receive nominations for Chair, calls for nominations, closes the nominations, and calls for the vote.
Recommended Motion: That the Martin Luther King Jr Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Member ___________________as Chair of the Martin Luther King Jr Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024/2025.
B. New Chair Opens Nominations for Vice Chair
The new Chair then announces that this is the time and place to receive nominations for Vice Chair, calls for nominations, closes the nominations, and calls for the vote.
Recommended Motion: That the Martin Luther King Jr Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Member ___________________as Vice Chair of the Martin Luther King Jr Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024/2025.
