City Council Agenda Item Report
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council discuss the Agenda Item Pending List and the
Tentative Agendas (including identifying any items which may have been overlooked)
and provide other direction to staff as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND
The City Council requested the City Manager to provide an opportunity to periodically
review the tentative agendas for future Council meetings. In response, this item is
presented to the City Council at the second regular City Council meeting of each
month. This presentation allows the City Council to provide policy direction to staff in
the case the City Council determines it wished to consider items in a different timeline
that scheduled by staff.
DISCUSSION:
The Agenda Item Pending List and the tentative agendas are used to help plan future
City Council meetings. In planning these meetings, staff attempts to place items on
agendas which yield an estimated meeting ending time of between 10:30 PM and
11:00 PM. While staff strives to keep items on the agenda they were originally
scheduled, many factors can impact the final placement of an agenda for
consideration by the City Council. Some of these factors are:
• City Council direction for placement of an item on a specific agenda
• The need for outside agency approval (such as the State of California) prior to
consideration by the City Council

City Council Agenda Item Report
• The purpose of this evening’s discussion is to provide the City Council with an
opportunity to provide staff with direction on specific items on the Pending List
and when they should be scheduled, and
• Tentative Agendas and to also provide comments on how these two planning
documents could be improved to provide Council with information desired.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
Discussion of the Agenda Item Pending List and the Tentative Agendas does not
create a fiscal impact. However, a well planned and organized agenda process will
increase efficiency and save staff time.
