RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS)
Commissionconduct a six month review of the Fox Hills Park Basketball Court
Improvement Project (PZ-960) and receive and file the report.
BACKGROUND:
After an extensive public notification process, the PRCS Commission received and
reviewed public input regarding the Fox Hills Park Basketball Court Improvement
Project (PZ-960) at both the December 4, 2012 and February 5, 2013 Commission
meetings. This Project was funded and approved by the City Council during the
Fiscal Year 2012/13 Budget Hearings.Atthe February 5, 2013 meeting, the
Commission recommended that staff resurface the basketball court and install Hoop
#5 (Attachment) and a hoop lock, with the stipulation that the Project receive a six
month review by the Commission.
DISCUSSION:
In May 2013, the Fox Hills Park Basketball Court was resurfaced and re-striped
anda new adjustable fiberglass basketball backboard with hoop (Hoop #5) was
installed. The hoop locks are also in use at the Court. In preparation for tonight’s
review of the Project, the Park Patrol logs for the months of June, July, August,
September, October and November 2013 were examined for reports of unruly
behavior, excessive noise, patron disputes and/or patron complaints related to the
installation of Hoop #5 and any disruption that it may have caused. None of these
types of reports were found. For the Commission’s information, the undesirable
patron behavior at the Park (unrelated to the Basketball Court) was limited to six City of Culver City, California

reports of smoking in the Park and one report of drinking in the Park. Also during
this six month period, there was one report of an unspecified injury and one report of
an unspecified complaint. Therefore, to the best of staff’s knowledge it appears that
the installation of Hoop #5 has not negatively impacted Fox Hills Park patrons or the
surrounding neighborhood.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the discussion of this Agenda Item.
