Nachbar (04/02/13) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council (1) accept the work performed by Griffith Company, (2) authorize the filing of the notice of completion, and (3) authorize the release of retention funds in the amount of $28,840 after the expiration of the 35-day lien period for the construction of the Jefferson Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Improvements Project at Hetzler Road, P-956. BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION: On June 11, 2012 the City Council awarded a contract to Griffith Company for the Jefferson Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Improvements Project. The Project constructed the following improvements: a new traffic signal, high visibility crosswalks, and curb extensions/bulb-outs at the Jefferson Boulevard and Hetzler Road intersection; raised landscaped median islands and new sidewalks along Jefferson Boulevard near its intersection with Hetzler Road; the restriping of Jefferson Boulevard between Duquesne Avenue and Holdrege Avenue to include bicycle lanes; and improvements to a 10-space parking lot on Jefferson Boulevard west of Hetzler Road, which is owned and to be maintained by the State of California Division of State Parks Griffith Company successfully completed the work as required in the contract. Three change orders in the amount of $44,375 were issued due to field changes, extra work as requested by the City, and contract quantity adjustment. Construction City of Culver City, California Agenda Item Report inspection services were performed by the City Council approved engineering on- call consultant, Willdan Engineering. The project was substantially completed in early January and a grand opening was held on January 18, 2013. MOTIONS: That the City Council: 1. Accept the work performed by the contractor, Griffith Company, for construction of the Jefferson Boulevard Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Improvements Project at Hetzler Road, P-956; and, 2. Authorize the Public Works Director/City Engineer to execute the Notice of Completion and submit it to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office for recordation; and, 3. Authorize the release of $28,840 in retention funds to Griffith Company following the expiration of the 35-day lien period.
