RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee (Advisory Committee) Receive and File a Discussion Regarding the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 2027 Planning and provide direction to staff, as needed.

 

 

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

 

The City of Culver City annually hosts Martin Luther King Jr. and Juneteenth celebrations in recognition of their historical and cultural significance. The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee provides community input and support related to these celebrations.

 

As planning begins for the 2027 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, staff would like to engage the Advisory Committee in a broader discussion regarding the upcoming celebration and the Committee's role in supporting these efforts moving forward.

 

Adam Troy, Assistant City Manager Economic, Vitality & Equity will lead the discussion and share information and considerations with the Advisory Committee. The discussion may include the 2027 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, the Advisory Committee's role and responsibilities, planning considerations, and other related matters.

 

Committee Members will have an opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and share their perspectives as part of the discussion.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

The Adopted Budget for fiscal year 2026-27 includes $15,000 for the Martin Luther King Celebration 2027 in Account 10130280 (Community Events)
