RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC): (1) receive and file a report from the 2026-2027 Public Events, Projects, and Budget Ad Hoc Subcommittee; (2) discuss the report and make recommendations, as deemed necessary; and (3) determine next steps as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
In July 2020, the Equity and Human relations Advisory Committee was created. In August 2020, EHRAC’s Ad Hoc Outreach Subcommittee solicited the Culver City community’s feedback in the creation of the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year Workplan comprised of 2020-2021 upcoming events and projects. Community Members were asked to provide Public Comment in regard to what they would like to see EHRAC undertake for the remainder of the fiscal year.
On April 27, 2021, EHRAC reached consensus to create a Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Public Events Ad Hoc Subcommittee tasked with planning the upcoming events that would comprise of the upcoming Fiscal Year’s Workplan.
At the July 26, 2022, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to approve the report from the 2022-2023 Public Events and Budget Ad Hoc Committee regarding the budget and planned events for Fiscal Year 2022-2023.
At the January 24, 2023, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to approve the report from the 2023-2024 Public Events and Budget Ad Hoc Committee regarding the budget and planned events for Fiscal Year 2023-2024.
At the January 26, 2024, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to combine the Public Events Ad Hoc Subcommittee with the Budget Ad Hoc Subcommittee, as the members were the same and the scope/purpose of both Ad Hoc Subcommittees were interdependent.
At the April 23, 2024, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to approve the report from the 2024-2025 Public Events and Budget Ad Hoc Committee regarding the budget and planned events for Fiscal Year 2024-2025.
At the January 28, 2025, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to form and appoint Members thereto, and to hear a report from, the 2025-2026 Public Events and Budget Ad Hoc Subcommittee at the April 22, 2025, Regular Meeting.
At the April 22, 2025, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to push the item to the May 20, 2025, Special Meeting. In the meantime, staff have committed to presenting the proposed plan to the Department Director and the City Manager for review.
June 2, 2025, Members of the Public Events and Budget Ad Hoc Subcommittee met with staff to review and evaluate the proposed EHRAC Public Events list for the 25/26 fiscal year.(Attachment 1)
At the July 22, 2025, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to approve the proposed EHRAC Public Events list for the 25/26 fiscal year.(Attachment 1)
At the April 28, 2026, Regular Meeting, EHRAC reached consensus to establish the 2026-2027 Public Events, Projects, and Budget Ad Hoc Subcommittee, appointed Members Bano, Rona, and Valverde thereto, and agreed that the Subcommittee would report back at the May 12, 2026, Special Meeting, regarding recommendations for Fiscal Year 2026-2027 events, projects, and budget allocations.
At the May 12, 2026, Special Meeting, Members agreed to review the proposed schedule with staff and bring the item back at the July 28, 2026, regular meeting for discussion of proposed events from July through December 2026, a proposed community survey and/or event to garner community feedback on desired events topics, formats and types.
At the July 28, 2026, Regular Meeting, Members reviewed the report and proposed schedule (Attachment 1), discussed and approved of an October 21, 2026, special event, and discussed and approved the proposed Special Events Survey and its distribution. Members also reached consensus to review the survey results and determine next steps at the September 29, 2026, special meeting.
DISCUSSION
If deemed appropriate, discuss and approve the report from the 2026-2027 Public Events, Projects, and Budget Ad Hoc Subcommittee (Attachment 2), and determine the next steps.
