RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council consider a fee waiver request made for the
Culver City Car Show and direct staff as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND
On May 13, 2006, the Downtown Business Association (DBA) is proposing to host
the Culver City Car Show. This would be the third annual car show hosted by the
DBA.
As proposed, the car show would be presented in the same general area as in the
prior two years: along Culver Boulevard from Duquesne Avenue to the south and
Ince Boulevard on the north.
DISCUSSION
Mr. Jay Handal, representative of the DBA, has submitted information to Staff
related to the planned layout of the 2006 Car Show. After evaluating this
information, staff has estimated City costs associated with the Car Show to be
approximately $15,000. These costs would be incurred primarily by the Public
Works and Police Departments. Mr. Handal has requested the City Council grant a
fee waiver.
In 2005, staff recommended, and City Council approved, a fee waiver requested by
the DBA. However, given the fiscal challenges being faced by the City, the

circumstances have changed and staff is unable to support the requested fee
waiver.
Tonight the City Council is considering the subject of the fee waiver. Mr. Handal has
also submitted a Special Event Permit application which will be heard by the
Committee on Permits and Licenses on April 19, 2006.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
As mentioned above, the City’s costs associated with the Car Show are estimated at
$15,000. Unless a fee waiver is granted by the City Council, staff would invoice the
DBA for the actual costs incurred. Alternately, should the City Council grant the fee
waiver, the additional costs would not be reimbursed and require a supplemental
appropriation from the General Fund reserve.
