RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council appoint a Planning Commissioner to fill vacant seat #4 for an unexpired full term through June 30, 2028.

BACKGROUND

On October 1, 2024,  Jackson Brissette resigned from the Planning Commission because he moved out of Culver City. He had served on the Planning Commission for 4 months.

The available Seat No.4 is for an unexpired term through June 30, 2028.  Pursuant to Culver City Municipal Code Section 3.03.015.A, because the unexpired term is longer than two years it shall be considered a full term with regard to term limits. The Planning Commission is both an advisory body to the City Council, as well as a final decision-making body on certain development projects/actions.

On January 27, 2025 City Council directed staff to consider the 2024 targeted pool of applicants who applied specifically to the body and were not appointed as well as anyone else who had since applied for the position.

Staff reached out to confirm that the candidates were still interested and offered the opportunity to make any updates to their prior year application.

DISCUSSION

There are four candidates interested in filling the vacancy. They are:

Andrew Flores

Dennis Park

Edward Sim

Alexander Van Gaalen

All four applications are included in attachment #1.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There is no fiscal impact associated with the appointment of this Planning Commissioner seat.
