City of Culver City, California City Council Agenda Item Report RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council approve the Revised Classified Classification Specification for Fire Captain. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: As the Personnel Department begins preparation for a new promotional recruitment for Fire Captain, we have taken the time to meet with Fire Department management and review the classification specification for Fire Captain. The revised classification specification reflects changes to minimum requirements in the Fire Department’s internal policy manual procedures for promotion and appointment, effective October 5, 2005. The Fire Department’s internal policy manual revisions adopted in October 2005, requires the Fire Captain classification to successfully complete requirements for Engine Boss, as outlined by California Incident Command Coordination System (CICCS) and Area ‘A’, by completion of probation or before May 1, 2008, whichever date occurs first. This additional requirement is necessary for the Fire Department to meet standards set by the California Office of Emergency Services and is the minimum level of training established for CICCS and Area ‘A’. This provides uniform knowledge and skills for a Fire Captain performing the duties of Engine Boss, when responding to a state issued emergency, such as wildland fire, earthquake, etc. Meeting Date: 02/13/06 Item Number: C-4 AGENDA ITEM: Approval of the Revised Classified Classification Specification for Fire Captain.
