P R O C L A M A T I O N FIRE SERVICE RECOGNITION DAY WHEREAS, for over a quarter of a century, Fire Service Recognition Day has been observed in the month of May, at which time fire stations hold “Open House” and extend an invitation to all residents to visit; and WHEREAS, the Fire Department of the City of Culver City performs many public services, besides the suppression of fires including paramedic rescue, disaster planning, arson investigation, public education, and inspections of businesses for fire hazards and safe handling of hazardous materials; and WHEREAS, many citizens are not aware of what a firefighter’s responsibilities are, that fire fighting is one of the most hazardous occupations in the United States, and most Culver City residents rarely get the opportunity to meet their firefighters and paramedics except in stressful emergency situations; and WHEREAS, due to excellence in fire prevention and emergency fire response, the Culver City Fire Department has one of the lowest levels of fire loss per 1,000 population in the State of California; and WHEREAS, the response time for Paramedic and fire calls is five minutes or less 91% of the time, where such rapid response is a major factor in saving lives and property; and WHEREAS, the Insurance Services Organization has awarded the Culver City Fire Department with a Class 1 rating; and WHEREAS, the Commission on Fire Accreditation International awarded the Culver City Fire Department the first accreditation in the State of California; and WHEREAS, Culver City Fire Station One, located at 9600 Culver Boulevard, will be the center of activity, with the fire apparatus and equipment on display for public view. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Culver City, California, hereby proclaims Saturday, May 13, 2006, as Fire Service Recognition Day in our City, and takes this opportunity to cordially invite all of our residents, both young and old, to visit all stations between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in order that they may become more familiar with the professional service provided by the Culver City Fire Department.
