RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission approve the new recruitment bulletin for Urban Forester.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Urban Forester position is assigned to the Public Works Department, Tree Maintenance Division, and is the steward of the City’s urban forest. The position is responsible for inspecting trees, identifying potential tree failures and hazards, recommending prescribed treatments and maintenance within adopted budget funds, scheduling tree maintenance activities, and maintaining the City’s urban forest database. The position is also responsible for selection, preparation, mixing, and application of insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides to rid trees and City owned structures and property in the public-right-of-way of pests, plant diseases, and weeds. The position prescribes treatments and recommends maintenance to optimize the health, beauty and safety of trees on City owned property and in the public right-of-way.
Recruitment Bulletin
The recruitment bulletin (Attachment 1) is being submitted for approval in consideration of opening a new recruitment.
AUTHORITY
The Commission’s authority to approve new or revised recruitment bulletins is outlined in the Civil Service Rules (CSR) 6.4:
6.4 Commission Approval: Where an examination is required, the Human Resources Director shall prepare a Job Bulletin and forward it to the Commission for approval. It shall not be necessary to obtain additional Commission approval of a Job Bulletin if there have been no changes in the minimum requirements, or examination components.
