RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve a Release for use of the film “This is Culver City.”

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the meeting of July 27, 2015, Karim Sahli and Len Dickter (collectively the Producers), commercial director and Cultural Affairs Commissioner, presented to the City Council their film “This is Culver City,” a pilot film created as a pro bono effort (also referred to as the “Film”).  As mentioned during the presentation, the Film was created to capture the community spirit that makes Culver City unique.

As explained by the Producers of the Film, many cities in Los Angeles County and worldwide use film as a key component of their economic and civic communications plan.   The Producers also conveyed to the City Council that they would like to see the Film as a visual brand unique to Culver City that can be owned and communicated.  They further requested that it be displayed on the City’s website.

Before the City can display the Film on its website or other social media pages, or use it for any other purpose, the Producers need to sign a release authorizing such use.  A proposed Release is presented this evening to the City Council for approval.  Upon approval, the City will request Mr. Sahli and Mr. Dickter to execute the Release.  Once the Release is executed, the City will be authorized to utilize the Film for whatever purposes deemed appropriate by the City Manager or his/her authorized designee.

FISCAL ANALYSIS
