RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council accept the work performed by California
Professional Engineering, authorize the filing of the notice of completion, and
authorize the release of retention funds after the expiration of the 35-day retention
period for the construction of the Sepulveda Boulevard Widening Project (Phase II),
Street Lighting Upgrade, P-881.
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION:
On May 14, 2012 the City Council awarded a contract to California Professional
Engineering for the construction of the Sepulveda Boulevard Widening Project
(Phase II), Street Lighting Upgrade, which included the replacement of twenty-eight
30-foot high steel poles with lower “marblite” concrete poles on Sepulveda
Boulevard from Slauson Avenue to Green Valley Circle, 15 bicycle friendly catch
basin grates covers, and the replacement of 14 traffic signs to current standard. The
award amount of the contract was $232,600.
California Professional Engineering successfully completed the work as required in
the contract. Three change orders in the amount of $34,617 were issued due to field
changes and extra work. Construction inspection services were performed by one of
the City Council approved engineering on-call consultants, Willdan Engineering.

MOTIONS:
That the City Council:
1. Accept the work performed by the contractor, California Professional Engineering
for Construction of the Sepulveda Boulevard Widening Project (Phase II), Street
Lighting Upgrade, P-881; and,
2. Authorize the Public Works Director/City Engineer to execute the Notice of
Completion and submit it to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office
for recordation; and,
3. Authorize the release of retention funds to California Professional Engineering
following the expiration of the 35-day lien period.
